Dive into Dutch Delights: Celebrate the Arrival of the Fresh Dutch Herring!

Join us for a delightful and festive occasion on Saturday, June 22nd, as we celebrate the annual arrival of the Fresh Dutch Herring, known as "Hollandse Nieuwe." We're excited to welcome everyone to Café the Plaza for an afternoon filled with delicious food, great music, and fun activities.

Starting at 12 PM, our event will feature a stand offering the freshest Hollandse Nieuwe, a delicacy cherished for its tender, flavorful meat. Alongside the herring, we will also have fried 'Kibbeling,' another Dutch favorite, known for its crispy, golden exterior and tender fish inside.

But wait, there's more!

Our party DJs will be spinning all your favorite tunes, creating an electrifying atmosphere that will have you moving and grooving. Feeling thirsty? We've got epic bucket deals on Heineken and Amstel Bright to quench your thirst.

Café the Plaza and The Marketplace have thoughtfully included activities for everyone to enjoy. The little ones can take part in the Dino Jump, an exciting inflatable attraction that guarantees hours of fun and laughter. Parents can relish the joyful atmosphere while knowing their children are engaged in safe and entertaining activities.

Hollandse Nieuwe, or "Haring," has been a staple of Dutch culture for centuries. The tradition dates to the 14th century, when the Dutch discovered that preserving the herring in brine helped maintain its freshness and flavor. This technique allowed the fish to be enjoyed long after it was caught, making it a vital part of the Dutch diet.
